Leather Bomber Jackets
In WWI, the U.S. Army officially established the Aviation Clothing Board and began issuing heavy-duty leather flight jackets to their pilots, a practice that continues to this day.
Military-issue flight or "bomber" jackets typically featured some combination of heavy duty leathers, high wraparound collars, zipper closures with wind flaps, snug cuffs and waists, and some were fringed and lined with fur for added warmth.
